The Monroe County School Boards Association Legislative Breakfast, held at the Shadow Lake Golf & Racquet Club, was a resounding success, uniting educators, students, school board members, and legislative leaders to tackle pressing educational issues. A highlight of the event was a compelling presentation by Honeoye Falls-Lima High School senior Paige M., who passionately advocated for universal free meals in public schools.
Paige, a dedicated student and community advocate, took the stage to emphasize the critical need for universal free meals in public schools. Her presentation highlighted the numerous benefits of providing free breakfast and lunch to all students, regardless of their family's income level. Paige's proposal aligns with a growing movement across the United States to address food insecurity and promote educational equity.
In addition to Paige's presentation, the HF-L Board of Education had a strong presence at the event, with five members in attendance, as well as Colin Pierce, HF-L Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations. The HF-L representatives advocated for a range of important topics, including state support for the transition to zero-emission school buses and ensuring equity in foundation aid. Their efforts reflect the district's commitment to sustainability and fair funding for all schools.
The Legislative Breakfast provided a platform for the HF-L Board of Education members and district leaders to engage with state legislators and school board members, fostering a productive dialogue on how to implement these initiatives in Monroe County. This event serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that dedicated individuals can have on their communities and the importance of addressing educational equity in schools.
